3 Things you need to know about Success

What’s up family long time no see. Hope everyone is having a great start to a new month. New seasons, new opportunities, summer is finally here and Atlanta is extremely HOT! Before I dive into the blog post, I want to share something.

It's funny, you never know who’s paying attention. Recently a friend of mine told me about a young lady he knows who's been reading my blogs. I've come to find out that my blogs have motivated her to quit her job and start her own business!

This blog is intended to motivate and inspire those looking to follow their dreams.

The writings I share on this blog usually come from conversations I've had or from something I've read. I had a great conversation one morning with my fraternity brother and friend Kwame (SneakerQue) at the gym on entrepreneurship and chasing your dreams.

He's in the Media/TV personality business and is doing pretty well for himself and I’m extremely proud of him because I  have seen the grind and work that he has put in. He's one that I can say motivates me! We spoke about how many people ask for tips to following their passion . Here are three things I would let people know about starting your a business or following your dream.

There is no perfect time - There is no perfect time to start a business or going after a dream. “You have to jump; every successful person took a leap of faith” - Steve Harvey.  I tell people often there is no perfect time, because in the back of your mind you are coming up with excuses on why it’s not the right time. I have to do this or I have to do that before I can take a big risk like that. Usually when you come up with that excuse it will become a cycle of reasons why, and now wasted years of wishing.

On the flip side of that you must be well prepared with a plan to jump out there, you can’t just walk in your job and quit with no thought-out plan to execute. Deciding to become a entrepreneur usually takes steps, just as you long your taking them in the right direction you’re on the right path.

Check out Steve Harvey on “you must jump to be successful”

Success will not happen overnight -  If you think you will become successful right away think again. We are exposed to so much from social media, television, and the internet we often see so many people doing well for themselves and we think to ourselves “man they blew up fast”. But you’re not exposed to the grind, the endless hours they put in working to perfect their craft.

Steph Curry is arguably the best shooter of all time, two time MVP, and world champion. Coming out of high school he wasn’t a big-time recruit. He grew up in Charlotte North Carolina, major schools in the state such as Duke, NC state, and UNC didn’t offer him a scholarship. But that didn’t stop him from going after it, believing in the process of greatness. He stayed consistent and look at him how!

You must invest in yourself – Often we think of investing as money, but investing is providing someone or something a particular quality or attribute. You must invest in your dream, passion, or business first before asking anyone to invest in it. If you don’t believe in your brand, dreams, or vision why would anyone invest their time, money, or services. Even if you don’t have all of the money that you think you need, you can invest and take the initiative to start somewhere maybe start by creating a Instagram page for your business or start creating content to promote your brand; taking the initiative to start is a major key!

Whatever your passion, dream, or idea is you must protect it, take action, and have a plan to execute.” A goal without a plan is a wish”. So continue to striving for greatness. And continue Stay Solid!

How do you define Success?

How do you define Success?

What’s up family? I hope everyone is doing well during this second week of May, 2017. I can't believe how fast this year is going. It was just New Years Day!! Since its the beginning of a new month, lets delve into something new. Maybe a new opportunity like a new workout routine, a new business idea. Whatever it happens to be, I challenge you this month, to try something new.

In this blog post, I want to concentrate on defining "Success".  How does society define Success. What does success look like to you and your peers. This blog is used strictly to motivate and will hopefully inspire people to follow their dream.

How do YOU define Success? Is there a right or wrong answer to this question? Is there a formula that you gets you to success? If you go through a step by step path are you guaranteed success at the end of the road? Whatever your method is in reaching success, how does it feel once you reach that finish line? Is it like winning a trophy? Are you just as excited about the next goal?

In a previous blog, I touched on the subject of success and how it is defined by society. Often times society defines success by  social class or material values." I want the money, money and the cars, the cars and clothes, I just want to be successful", a hit written by Drake and Trey Songz. Tell me, is this what success look like to you?

Is success a Class? – Often we put our peers in different brackets or a certain social class. What we don't realize is that we are actually judging ourselves on how much money we earn or what kind of job we have.  Sometimes as human beings, and not even on purpose, we meet people and the first thing we often ask is what do you do? A lot of times, we don't really care about what they actually do but we want to judge, label, and put them in certain class. Usually what we are doing is seeing how we measure up to them.  As people, we often make judgement in our head. We say "oh they're a lawyer they probably drive a nice luxury car or live in a nice house. We look at them as being successful.

Is success Money? –  Money is the way to purchase, to trade, it's a form of resource, but is it success? Are you chasing the money or are you chasing a dream? Going through life, I think we get that mixed up sometimes. Today there are so many get rich schemes and microwave success stories (hot for the moment like a fad) that we can get caught up in “chasing the bag”.  I'm sure you've heard the saying,  more money more problems.

What does Success looks like to me? – I feel like success is whatever you make it. Ben Caschona, author of "My Start Up" put it in a simple sentence “Success is happiness”. Author Brett Farmiloe defined it by stating “Success is being able to say, “I love what I do.”

In my opinion, there is no right or wrong answer as to how you define your success. Happiness, is definitely a characteristic of success. You may look at someone's situation and they might not have the best paying job but they go home to a loving family that makes them happy. Some cases there are CEO’s that have a ton of money in the bank, they drive nice cars but are miserable inside. They can’t even look at themselves in the mirror at night, is that success?

However YOU define success just make sure you’re going after it. Success is the journey not the destination, so make sure that you embrace every step. And continue to Stay Solid.

Three Key Stages in the Process of Reaching Your Goal

Three Key Stages in the Process of Reaching Your Goal

Hello world. I wanted to do a small introduction just to thank you for even checking out this blog. You’re family now… lol. This is my first blog but my plan is to write at least once a week.

Growing up in school I used to enjoy writing and I happened to be pretty decent at it but I stopped for reasons I can't even explain. In this first blog, I want to speak on what I call "The Process". I hope that each blog will inspire and motivate each reader. Feel free to give me feedback.

1. Don’t Cheat the Process - With every goal that you reach there is usually a process that you go through to accomplish that specific goal. For example, if there is a job you got, you went through the process of applying, possibly a phone interview, an in-person interview, background check, and finally a job offer. When you go after a goal such as this, you can’t cheat the process. A lot of times people try to find loop holes and a easy way to the top. Anytime it seems like there is an easy way to your goal, believe me, it may only appear that way temporarily. Hard work is concrete, it also shows character. When you’ve worked hard to get something or get somewhere in your life, not only do you know it but the people around you know as well. Don't cheat the grind. It feels better knowing that you did it the honest way.

2. Embrace the Process - Do you ever feel like when you’re going through that middle part of the process, meaning that gritty stage that nobody sees you grinding and you just want to give up? Don’t give up, embrace the process! 2015 was a rough year for me, but as I look back I know it was the best year because it changed my perspective on how I looked at adversity.

During my life growing up, basketball ball was my life… lol. I put a lot of time and effort in the sport. I knew if I put the work in I was bound for success. As I transitioned into the real world things were much tougher. It was more than just putting the time in. I had my own bills, family situations, student loans, managing in society which at times seemed overwhelming. But this is what embracing the process all is about. It’s about going through life’s hardships but staying true to yourself and believing that what you may be going through is only temporary pain. I am finding that life is all about Perspective. This stage is usually the make or break time for people. Once you get through the storm you find you can weather anything!

3. Trust the Process - In today’s world everyone likes visual proof; tv, internet, social media, you name it. But there will be times that your progress won’t be visible. There may be days that don’t seem as productive as others and days that you may start to question why am I even doing this? Trust the Process. This is where faith comes in. Hebrews 11:1 says “now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see”. Believing in something you can’t see is hard for anyone! But you must believe it in your heart, believe in yourself that you have what it takes to reach and conquer your goal!

Accomplishing your goal isn’t easy, it’s going take faith, time, patience and hard work. If it were easy you wouldn’t want it. Stay motivated and continue to Stay Solid!
